Port Campbell Discovery Walk
Port Campbell, while not a very big town, has a unique position in its own National Park. On one side are the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge and on the other side are London Bridge, the Grotto and countless other limestone formations. Timboon is the service town for Port Campbell and surrounding areas.
We have just tramped across Port Campbell Bay Beach to reach these steps. They are the starting point of our walk in Port Campbell National Park. This will be roughly a four kilometre round trip. Careful that you don't get water in your shoes as you jump over there! |
Are you coming? If you are scared of heights, please don't look back at the beach. We now have to decide whether to take a right turn to the lookout or a left turn out to sea. Right you say. Good choice. |
We've made it to the lookout and isn't the view of Port Campbell superb from way up here? See the clump of large white roofs between the caravan park and the bay? That's the new Surf Lifesaving Club. |
Okay, we've gone back to the turn off and are heading the other way - out to sea or more precisely, to the Southern Ocean. Did you know that the coastline next to the Great Ocean Road is known as the Shipwreck Coast? |
I've heard that the jetty down there is a good place to cast a line. The road winding round inside the coastline is none other than the Great Ocean Road. The Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge are some distance away in that direction. |
All good things must come to an end. Sadly, it's time to retrace our steps. Well, there is one good thing remaining. It will be downhill all the way. |
Here we are, back were we started from. Hope you enjoyed the Port Campbell Discovery Walk. Thanks for coming along. It's been a pleasure showing you around. |
