Como

Como on Lake Como

Como, on the south western tip of Lake Como, is a prominent tourist centre of northern Italy.  The main attraction here must be the magnificent spectacle of the snow-covered alps and also there are many lovely villas on the edges of the lake that just seem to make the picture even prettier.
One of the attractions to visit in Como is found on the shore of the lake and it is the Volta Museum.  Alessandro Volta, whose work the museum is in honour of, developed the predecessor of the electric battery.  If you are interested in the lead up to the invention of electricity (and what could we do without it?) this is certainly the place to go as it is a very thorough museum even if it is only small.  There are many other features of interest in Como including the medieval walls that outline the town's historical centre.
